As Fire Chief, I would like to welcome you to Salt Spring Island Fire Rescue’s website. The primary function of the website is to provide you with critical fire prevention and public education information focused on fire safety; however, as you navigate the site you will gain some insight into our customer-focused, multi-faceted organization, which delivers a myriad of services to the Salt Spring Island community in the areas of public education, fire prevention and fire rescue.
For over 50 years, Salt Spring Island Fire Rescue has provided professional and efficient fire suppression, emergency preparedness, emergency medical services, fire prevention and public education to the community. I am honoured to represent and lead Salt Spring Island Fire Rescue into the next generation.
Our continued success is only possible through the ongoing dedication, commitment and outstanding efforts of the brave men and women of Salt Spring Island Fire Rescue. I wish to personally thank and acknowledge the passion and dedication of our firefighters, fire prevention inspectors, public and life safety educators and our staff behind the scenes that support them. Together the Salt Spring Island Fire Rescue Team achieves our simplest core functions by always learning, adapting, engaging and effectively deploying our resources.
Did you know our SSIFR Paid-On-Call firefighters come from all walks of life? They are carpenters, home makers, truck drivers, mechanics, nurses, paramedics, electricians, local business owners and they all have one thing in common, the desire to make a real difference in our community. If you have ever considered becoming a member of our department as a paid-on-call firefighter, I would encourage you to look at our recruiting section, learn all you can about what we do and come and talk with us – we are always looking to strengthen our team.
Lastly, I ask you to make a personal commitment to the safety and resiliency of your family. Make sure you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home and talk with your family about what to do if there is a fire or other emergency in your home.
