FireSmart SSI Rebate Program

Seniors (aged 65 and over) and people with disabilities may be eligible for a rebate up to $250 to assist with labour related to a FireSmart Residential Assessment on Salt Spring Island.
This rebate is available until June 30, 2022 under the provincial FireSmart Economic Recovery Fund to help communities recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund is limited to the first 100 applicants.
In order to obtain a rebate, you must complete a few steps:
  1. Apply for a FireSmart Residential Assessment here.
  2. A Local FireSmart Representative (LFR) from SSIFR will assess your home and make recommendations with a primary assessment.
  3. You hire someone to complete work around your home, as per the FireSmart Residential Assessment recommendations (save your receipt).
  4. Contact SSIFR at the same link above to book a second FireSmart Residential Assessment.
  5. An SSIFR LFR will conduct a secondary FireSmart Residential Assessment, make a copy of your receipt for completed work, and complete a rebate-cheque requisition.
  6. Celebrate a job well done!

Applications will be accepted until the FireSmart Economic Recovery Fund is fully allocated.
